A core charge is a refundable deposit you pay when purchasing a remanufactured engine or transmission. Think of it as a deposit on your old part.
Why Does a Core Charge Exist?
Remanufactured parts are rebuilt from used cores — the worn engines and transmissions that come out of vehicles. In order to keep that cycle going, remanufacturers need a steady supply of old cores to rebuild. The core charge is designed to ensure those old parts come back.
How It Works
1. You purchase a remanufactured engine or transmission. A core charge is added to your order at checkout. 2. Your new part arrives. You have 30 days to return your old part. 3. You return your old (core) part in rebuildable condition. 4. Your full core deposit is refunded after inspection.
What Qualifies for a Full Refund?
To receive your full core deposit refund, the returned core must be:
- Complete — all major internal components intact
- Rebuildable — no catastrophic damage or unauthorized disassembly
- Returned within 30 days of your delivery date
What If I Don't Return the Core?
If the core is not returned within 30 days, you forfeit the deposit. Failing to return the core may also affect your warranty on the new part.
