Freight shipping involves multiple moving parts — literally. It's not uncommon for delivery dates to shift after your order has shipped, and there are several normal reasons why this happens.
Common Reasons for Changing Delivery Dates
- Weather delays: Severe weather along the freight route can cause carriers to hold or reroute shipments.
- Carrier capacity: Freight networks can become congested during high-volume periods, shifting scheduled dates.
- Route changes: LTL freight is consolidated with other shipments, and route adjustments can push dates back.
- Rescheduled delivery window: If a previous delivery attempt was missed or the carrier needs to reschedule your window, the date may change.
This Is Normal with Freight Shipping
Unlike parcel shipping with tight next-day windows, freight delivery windows are estimates — not guarantees. The delivery date on your tracking will reflect the most current estimated arrival as the carrier updates it.
What You Can Do
- Check your tracking number for the latest status — it updates automatically as the carrier moves your shipment.
- If the carrier already called to schedule a window and needs to reschedule, they'll contact you directly.
- If you're concerned about a significant delay or something doesn't look right, give us a call at 1-844-XPARTS-1 and we'll look into it for you.
