What is liftgate delivery and do I need it?
Text size

A liftgate is a hydraulic platform attached to the back of a freight truck. It lowers your pallet — in this case, your engine or transmission — from the truck bed down to the ground safely.

Do You Need Liftgate Service?

If your delivery location does not have a loading dock or forklift, you almost certainly need liftgate service. This applies to:

  • Residential addresses
  • Small businesses without a loading dock
  • Any location where a forklift or dock is not available

Without a liftgate, the freight driver is not required to unload the pallet. You would need to unload the engine or transmission from the truck bed yourself — which is not practical or safe given the weight of these parts. A single engine can weigh 400–600+ pounds.

When You Don't Need Liftgate Service

If you're receiving delivery at a commercial address with a loading dock or forklift on-site, liftgate service is generally not required.

Cost

Liftgate service is available for an additional $99, bringing the total shipping cost to $398 for residential or liftgate-required deliveries.

Not sure if you need a liftgate? When in doubt, add it — it's the safest and easiest way to receive a heavy freight delivery. Contact us at 1-844-XPARTS-1 or support@expediaparts.com if you have questions.
